Growing up in a small town north of Dallas, Texas, she developed a love for theater and studied set design at McLennan Community College and The University of Texas at Arlington. Longing to finish her education in a coastal setting, she turned her creative endeavors toward a degree in Culinary Arts at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 2002, she began her career in the wedding industry at a nearby country club as a Catering Assistant. After being promoted to Banquet Manager April had the opportunity to assist clients with planning everything from small cooperate gatherings to large-scale weddings. Drawn to the art of cake decorating, coupled with her culinary and set design education, she decided to leave the restaurant management industry to focus her talents on a thriving custom cake business, Ape’s Cakes, which she opened in 2009. April, her husband Justin, and their 2 children have called Louisa, Virginia, home since 2014. April has been involved with Louisa County Public Schools and the PTA since 2015.
